4 c. all-purpose flour
1-1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
3 Tbsp. sugar |
2 Tbsp. shortening
Milk (about 1 1/2 cup)

Sift flour with salt, baking powder, and sugar. Cut in
shortening, and add milk to make a soft dough. Cover bowl and let set for
30 to 60 minutes; then roll between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured
board. Cut into diamond shaped pieces or triangles. Heat 1 inch of oil
in frying pan to about 380° F. to 400° F. Add a few pieces
at a time; turn at once so they will puff evenly, then turn back to brown
both sides. Drain on paper toweling. Serve with honey and/or sprinkled
with cinnamon and sugar.
