Preheat oven to 300° F. In a buttered 3 quart baking
dish, alternate 4 layers of potatoes, seasoned with salt and pepper, with
for layers of onion. Sprinkle each onion layer with 1 tablespoon flour
and 1/2 cup cheese, and dot with 2 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces.
Add just enough milk to cover the ingredients. Cover with aluminum foil
and bake until bubbly (50 minutes). Raise oven temperature to 350 degrees
F. Uncover potatoes and continue baking until the potatoes are tender and
the top is lightly browned (30 to 40 minutes)
