In a large pot, combine split peas and water. Bring to
a boil, reduce heat. Cover and let simmer until tender (one hour). Add
onion, potato, garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste, dried parsley,
and carrots. Simmer, covered, for one hour. Transfer soup mixture to a
blender (working in batches) and puree until smooth. Return to heat and
warm through.
